What's Coming Up?
Friday 19th October 1.30pm at St Vincent’s, for working practices in parishes
The next Confirmation Mass in this parish will be on Friday 8th February 2019 at 7pm. If you would like your child to be included in the preparation programme, please email their name and parent email address to email@example.com In return you will receive some important documents which must be completed and returned to the Parish Secretary before November 23rd. There will be an introductory meeting for parents and candidates on Thursday 29th November at 7.30pm in the church, and a contribution of £5 towards costs is be paid at this meeting. The programme itself will start on Thursday 10th January 2019.
A Foyer de Charité Retreat will be held at Hinsley Hall, the Diocese of Leeds Pastoral Centre, from Sunday 21 July (6pm) – Saturday 27 July (2pm) 2019. The theme is God’s Plan for the Fullness of Time, and the preacher will be Mgr. Keith Barltrop, with help from Foyer members and past retreatants. Foyer retreats are held mainly in silence, with three talks a day, and offer a holistic way of deepening our faith in the Church’s teaching and our life in Christ. The Foyers are communities of consecrated lay people living with a priest in order to help others grow closer to Christ and live the Catholic faith more fully. For further information or to book a place, contact Mgr. Barltrop: firstname.lastname@example.org; 07879 953953; St. Mary of the Angels, Moorhouse Road, Bayswater, London W2 5DJ
There are also English retreats in Tressaint in February and Châteauneuf in September, details of which can be found on the foyer website, https://www.foyers.org.uk/
Various prayer and social events are organised by parish groups throughout the year. Please join us for coffees and teas after 10.30am Mass on the first and third Sundays of the month. These coffee mornings are hosted by our various parish groups and often act as fundraisers for various causes, although there is no obligation to contribute.
Anybody is welcome to host a coffee morning; they are well attended and are a particularly enjoyable way of meeting people in our community and for getting information on parish activities.
Hosting Meetings and Events
Information on group meetings can be found under Parish groups. Please see the weekly newsletters for all Parish and other local, national and international events. Group meetings are held in the Church, Church porch, Parish meeting room or Parish hall. Some are held outside the church premises. Please check to confirm where your group meets.
The Parish hall is used for events and can be hired by Parishioners and the wider community. For more information, see Parish hall.
Reflections From Events
I was part of a delegation of parishioners who had the privilege of attending two glorious days in Liverpool. The objective of the Congress was to give us a unique opportunity in the life of the Church to gather and reflect on the centrality of the Eucharist and particularly to explore the place of Eucharistic adoration. In addition to the main events there were numerous parallel programmes e.g. Adoremus Youth Congress and various exhibitions.
On the Saturday we were welcomed with opening prayers by Bishop Robert Byrne and Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP.
The highlight of the day for many of us were the two keynote addresses by Bishop Robert Barron, a world-renowned philosopher and lecturer. The theme of his talks were:
- Sainthood, sanctity and what makes holy
- The Mystery of the Mass.
The response to his lectures in the auditorium was palpable.
The day concluded with Exposition and Benediction and a reflection by Cardinal Vincent Nichols.
On Sunday a solemn Pilgrimage Mass was held in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King with Cardinal Vincent Nichols as the celebrant, together with many bishops and priests. Those of us in attendance experienced a very joyous and religious encounter, culminating in the Outdoor Eucharistic Procession. The slight rain did not dampen our enthusiasm, and the final stage of the Procession along Hope Street, where we could view all the hierarchy celebrating Benediction will be something I will always treasure.
My final reflection is something I overheard from a bystander. “It is great to see we Catholics coming out of the shadows and openly professing our faith once again!”.
I trust that Adoremus will maintain its legacy and build the foundations for a brighter future.
