“Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit… Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age”
The Parish of St Hugh and St John, Timperley, together with St Vincent’s, Altrincham, and Holy Angels, Hale Barns, form the Altrincham Pastoral Area of the Diocese of Shrewsbury (currently Local Pastoral Area [LPA] 15). These were formerly deaneries, and the pastoral structure will shortly be replaced by LMAs (Local Missionary Areas).
Historically, the parish was a single entity, split up in 1957 into the two former parishes of St Hugh of Lincoln, West Timperley, and St John the Baptist, Timperley, and on the 8th of June 2009, amalgamated into one parish again with the closure of St. John the Baptist church. The parish boundary encompasses an area of mixed housing, in which a great deal of new development has taken place in recent years resulting in many more apartments and houses. We have lots of young families with children worshipping here each week in our church, and are especially proud of the generations of families who built this congregation and still worship here with us. More details on the parish history can be found here.
The parish is blessed with an outstanding Primary School, St Hugh’s Catholic Primary, which serves as a feeder school for the three Catholic High Schools in the Altrincham area, Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College (mixed), Loreto Grammar School (girls only), and St Ambrose College (boys only).
Whether you have recently moved into the area or been around for some time, or are simply visiting these parts, we hope you will join our community to share in our life and worship. We look forward to seeing you, and assure you of a warm welcome.
